The Wiki was used for the first time in a weekend workshop with cohort 6.
We have completed a final literature review and shared this with the research team. An analysis of the Hong Kong questionnaires has been carried out and completed. We have set up a new blog where students are not required to register (this one) and a Wiki for students to access and share course materials. The blog is also accessible on SmartPhone devices. Widgets have been added to the NOW homepage for Hong Kong students as asked for by the students. This has given them direct links to 'content' within NOW with a minimal click counter. UK questionnaires were distributed to the Global Lounge. However there are currently issues with obtaining responses from UK students. This is being discussed and a resolution is being formed. New induction for new students has increased the usage of NOW. This has been evidenced by the analytics (up to 30 logins recorded per student). We met with Professor Christina Preston, Bedford University, MirandaNet (external evaluator).
Questionnaires were finalised for Hong Kong and UK students. CADQ attended the meeting and gave us advice and comments on the technologies that could be adapted to support the Hong Kong students. They also gave us information regarding the intended developments to the NOW learning room. UK students expressed that they wish to share reading etc. This information was found on the blog. A video response was created to answer the Hong Kong students question on "How to change the font size on NOW?" We created a video to introduce ourselves to the Hong Kong students. This was shown by Dr Helen Boulton to the students whilst she visited Hong Kong.
The initial data indicated that the VLE was very rarely used by students. Following this, we began to research a variety of online technologies available to support the students. Hong Kong students indicated that they wanted a closer relationship with NTU UK based students if possible. We have set out how data will be collected.
Hollie and Matthew have met with Peter Donald (NTU Librarian) to find out who to carry out a literature search using the LibraryOne search on NOW. We set up an initial blog but it was unsuccessful as students were required to register with the host site before viewing the blog pages. Expectations and commitments of the project have been explained to the students involved.
Team building exercises have been undertaken and students have been trained in research methods and questions. The Hong Kong students have been introduced to the project by Dr Helen Boulton. Initial problems with NOW have been identified;
Follow this Dr Helen Boulton handed out leaflets with guidance on how to use NOW. Hong Kong students requested their own learning area within NOW (this was completed in each learning room). Today the baseline data has been collected on post-graduate students in Hong Kong showing their engagement with NOW.
The initial analytics of Hong Kong students use of NOW were analysed. |
